Audience
What your readers are interested in.
Top topics
Share of topic matches in your readers' conversations, and how often an ad was shown for them.
Loading…
How this is measured. Topics are worked out on your readers' own devices; we never see their
conversations. A device only reports a topic when an advertiser is currently buying it, so this shows the
overlap between what your readers talk about and what advertisers want to reach. Health, mental health,
dating, legal and senior-care topics are grouped into one row, and topics seen fewer than 20 times in the
period aren't shown, to protect your readers' privacy.
Setup
Add Cognatu to your site in two steps.
1
Add this script to every page Recommended
Paste it before the closing
</body> tag, or in your site's footer settings. It loads in the background and never slows your pages down.—2
Mark where ads should appear
Put this where you want an ad. Use it as many times as you like.
<div data-cognatu-slot></div>On WordPress, use this shortcode in any post or widget instead:
[cognatu_ad]3
Check it's working
Open one of your pages. While you're setting up, sample ads fill your slots so you can see it working
(you can turn them off in Ad controls).
Within a minute, the "Add the script" step on Home ticks itself off.
Make sure the site is listed under Your domains, or ads won't show on it.
Ad units
Name individual placements to give each its own minimum price or country list. Optional.

Ad controls
Decide which ads show, when, and at what price.
Sample ads
Ads from well-known brands fill your slots while you set up, so you can see how it looks. They don't earn money. Turn them off once real advertisers are serving.
Minimum earnings per 1,000 ads
Ads that would earn you less than this don't show, and the slot stays empty. Leave at 0 for no minimum.
$
When ads can appear
Holds an ad back when it would feel like an interruption. A held-back ad is never shown and never billed.
for turns (0 keeps it blocked until a different ad has shown).
At least turns between ads
0 means no minimum gap.
Topic-change allowance
When the conversation moves to a new subject, an ad may appear before the gap above has passed. From 0 to 1: higher allows it after smaller changes, 0 never does.
At least seconds between ads across different conversations
The gaps above count per conversation; this is the floor across all of one person's conversations. 0 turns it off.

Ad matching
Your readers' conversations are matched on their own devices and never sent to us, whichever you choose. The only choice is whether we also read your public website to learn what it's about.

Help
How Cognatu works for your site. Still stuck? hello@cognatu.com
How do I get paid?
Every time a paid ad is shown on your site, you earn a share of what the advertiser pays. "Earned per 1,000 ads" is what 1,000 views of paid ads earned you on average, after Cognatu's share.
Sample ads, which fill your slots while you set up, never earn money and aren't counted in your earnings.
Why don't I see any ads or earnings yet?
Check the Get started list on Home. The usual causes are: the script isn't on your pages yet, the site isn't listed under Your domains, or no advertiser is currently buying the topics your readers talk about.
"Ads ready to show on your site right now" on Home tells you how much advertising is currently eligible. If it's zero, nothing can show yet.
Do you track my readers?
No. Ads are matched to what's being talked about, on the reader's own device. We never see their conversations and don't use cookies or browsing history.
That's also why the Audience page shows only topics, grouped and counted, never anything about an individual.
What are ad units?
An ad unit is a named placement, like "Sidebar" or "Below article", so you can give it its own minimum price or limit it to certain countries. You don't need any to get started.
What do the ad controls do?
Minimum earnings per 1,000 ads: ads that would earn you less than this don't show, and the slot stays empty. A higher minimum can mean fewer ads.
When ads can appear: holds an ad back when it would interrupt, for example while someone is troubleshooting, or if they just saw one.
Ad matching: optionally lets us read your public website so only fitting ads show.
What are environments?
The switcher at the top lets you create a separate test copy of your account (for example "staging"). Ads show there so you can test end to end, but nothing is ever billed or paid out.
How do referrals work?
Share your link. When a publisher signs up through it, you earn a bonus of 10% of their earnings, credited automatically.
